Foodie fundraiser season is underway, and several are coming up through the spring and early summer, including a new one modeled after a popular television show. Among them:
▪ Cutthroat Cookoff is the creation of High Touch Technologies, and its purpose it to raise money for Special Olympics. The event is scheduled from 6 to 9 p.m. April 15 at Botanica, 701 Amidon, and it will feature a live cook-off that pairs local celebrities with local chefs. I’m one of the people who will be assisting a chef. (Eeeep!) Tickets are $50 a person or $350 for a table of 8, and they’re available at www.eventbrite.com.
▪ Palette to Palate, a wine auction and dinner in its sixth year, is planned for 6:30 p.m. Feb. 26 at Noah’s Event Venue, 1550 N. Lindberg Circle. This year’s event will have a champagne reception, live and silent auctions and a wine dinner provided by Larkspur. The event benefits KETCH. Tickets are $150 or two for $275. A $300 ticket includes a VIP reserve tasting. They’re available at 316-383-8880.
▪ Death by Chocolate, a fundraiser for Exploration Place that offers enough chocolate decadence to kill the average person, is back for its 10th annual installment on Feb. 27. It’s from 7 to 10 p.m. at the museum, 300 N. McLean Blvd. Attendees can sample chocolate and savory creations, dance to music from Annie Up, visit the new “Guitar: The Instrument That Rocked the World” exhibit and enjoy an open bar. Tickets are $85 a person and available at exploration.org or by calling 316-660-0620. Proceeds benefit Exploration Place.

▪ Throw Down in Old Town is a cookie and coffee competition from 6 to 8 p.m. March 3 at Old Cowtown Museum’s visitor center, 1865 Museum Blvd. The event, a benefit for Children First: CEO Kansas Inc., will feature top cookie bakers and latte artists competing for the title of best in their fields. Admission is $20 and includes cookie and coffee samples. Tickets are available at http://throwdowninoldtown2016.eventbrite.com.

▪ Celebrity & Chef Cookoff: The annual fundraiser for the Orpheum Theatre also pairs local celebrities with local chefs for a cook off. This one, the 15th annual, will be June 14 at Intrust Bank Arena. Watch for details.
