How to open a bottle of champagne
Valentine’s Day is almost here, and even though it’s on a Sunday this year, you’ll likely be fighting for restaurant tables with the rest of the lovesick public. The time to make reservations has arrived.
Here’s a list of some of the restaurants offering fixed-price menus or out-of-the-ordinary entrees, appetizers and drinks for couples. Some will observe Valentine’s Day on Feb. 14 only. Others will stretch their specials through the weekend.
Note: If you don’t see your favorite restaurant here, it could be open and offering its regular menu and a few daily specials.
Adrian’s Cafe, 2121 N. Rock Road, 316-681-1148: The restaurant is offering a special menu of entrees ranging from $12.95 to $21.95. All entrees come with side of vegetables of the day and choice of salad. Drink specials also will be available. Call for reservations.
AVI Seabar & Chophouse, inside the Drury Plaza Hotel Broadview, 135 N. Waco, 316-262-3300: The restaurant is serving an $89-a-couple sweetheart menu that includes a spinach dip appetizer, choice of salad or soup, filet with lobster tail, creamed potatoes, green beans, flourless chocolate cake and one glass of champagne or sparkling apple cider each. It’s available from 4 p.m. to close Feb. 12-14, and the regular menu will be available on Friday but not on Saturday and Sunday. Sunday hours are 4 to 9 p.m. Reservations are recommended.
Bella Vita Bistro, 120 N. West St., 316-941-4500: The family-owned Italian restaurant will serve a special menu starting at 5 p.m. Feb. 14 that’s $45 a person and includes a four-course meal, with dish titles inspired by “Fifty Shades of Grey.” Diners can choose an appetizer, soup or salad, an entree and a dessert. Call for reservations.
Delano BBQ Co., 710 W. Douglas, 316-260-4950: The restaurant is offering two “Redneck” Valentine’s Day dinner options. One includes a full slab of ribs with sides and is $46.95 and the other is a barbecue sampler for $36.95. Both include beers or fountain drinks, two chocolate-covered strawberries and a visit to a S’mores bar. It’s offered from 3 to 8 p.m. Feb. 12 and 13. Reservations are required.
Georges French Bistro, 4618 E. Central, 316-831-1325: The restaurant, which is usually closed on Sundays, is opening from 5 to 9 p.m. and offering a special menu that includes entrees like lobster Thermidor and coq a vin. Reservations are required.
Granite City, 2244 N. Webb Road, 316-636-5050, and 2661 N. Maize Road, 316-721-8500: Diners can choose a three-course dinner for two that’s $39.95 a couple. It’s available Feb. 11-15.
Hana Cafe, 325 N. Mead, 316-260-8701: This sushi and Korean restaurant is offering a dinner for two for $40 that includes a choice of two appetizers, miso soup or salad and two sushi rolls. Couples can choose from two bottles of wine and add it for $25. The restaurant also will offer $6 chocolate heart martinis. The meal is offered Feb 12-14, and reservations are accepted.
Hangar One Steakhouse, 5925 W. Kellogg, 316-941-4900: The restaurant is serving a $49.99-a-couple dinner available Feb. 12-14 that includes an appetizer, choice of entree, dessert and two glasses of champagne. Reservations are recommended.
Harvest Kitchen & Bar, 400 W. Waterman, 316-613-6300: The fine-dining restaurant inside the Hyatt is offering a special menu from 5:30 to 10 p.m. on Feb. 13 and 14 that is $45 a person and offers soup, salad, choice of entree and dessert. Call for reservations.
Hereford House, 1400 Terradyne Drive, Andover, 316-733-7800: The restaurant has a four-course dinner for two for $75. Call for reservations.
The Hungry Heart, 222 S. Commerce, 316-440-7542: This gastropub and brewery is doing a four-course dinner, each course paired with a beer. It’s from 7 to 9:30 p.m. on Feb. 14. The main course is sea bass. It costs $45 a person. Reservations are required and must be paid for in advance.
Larkspur, 904 E. Douglas, 316-262-5275: The restaurant will be offering several menu specials Feb. 12-14 as well as two romantic drink specials: a sweetheart champagne and a cocktail called Cupid’s Arrow. Jenny Wood will be performing on Feb. 13 and 14. Call for reservations.
Luciano’s, 216 W. Main, Mulvane, 316-777-0045: This Mulvane Italian restaurant will be offering a five-course chef’s menu in lieu of the regular menu. It is $60 a person, $15 more with wine pairings. It’s available on Feb. 13 and 14. Call for reservations.
Mediterranean Grill, 335 S. Towne East Drive, 316-651-5599: The restaurant will be open from 4 to 9 p.m. on Feb. 14 and will offer a package for two that includes a bottle of wine, two side salads, an appetizer, two 10-ounce filets or barramundi fillets with two sides for $69.95. A red rose will be given to each table. Call for reservations.
The Muse Cafe, inside the Wichita Art Museum, 1400 W. Museum Blvd, 316-268-4973: The cafe will offer a crepes and champagne brunch with a choice of soup or salad, choice of crepe entree and choice of dessert and coffee and a mimosa or glass of champagne for $20 a person. A la carte specials also will be offered. Hours are 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Oeno Wine Bar, 330 N. Mead, 316-440-5000: The Old Town wine bar is putting on a four-course dinner with wine pairings. It’s at 6:30 p.m. on Feb. 14 and is $50 a person. Call for reservations or register online at empireks.com.
Olive Tree, 2949 N. Rock Road, 316-681-1100: The banquet hall will have a special brunch from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Feb. 14. It will include veal parmigiana, blintzes with cheese, crab cakes, desserts and several vegetarian and vegan-friendly options. It’s $17 for adults, $15 for seniors, $9 for ages 5-12 and free for ages 4 and under. Reservations accepted and recommended for large groups.
Siena Tuscan Steakhouse, inside the Ambassador Hotel, 104 S. Broadway, 316-440-5300: The restaurant is offering a $75-a-person menu available starting at 4 p.m. on Feb. 13 and 14. The regular menu will not be offered. Reservations are recommended.
Tanya’s Soup Kitchen, 1725 E. Douglas: The restaurant is offering a five-course Latin-inspired dinner paired with wines. The dinner is $85 a person with a $5-a-head discount for parties of six or more. It’s available at 6:30 p.m. on Feb. 12 and 13. Reservations are required by calling 316-267-7687 and asking for Sarah.
Taste & See, 255 N. Washington, 316-260-4233: The restaurant is offering a five-course dinner on Feb. 14 that’s $50 a person. Seatings are available at 5, 6:30 and 8 p.m. Reservations are required at 316-260-4233 or on the restaurant’s Facebook page.
Twelve, 12111 W. Maple, 316-440-2812: This west-side restaurant is offering a dinner for two from 5 to 10 p.m. on Feb. 12 and 13. It’s $60 a couple and includes choice of soup or salad, one of three entrees and a dessert. The regular menu also will be available. The restaurant also will have a special Feb. 14 brunch from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. that’s $18.95 for adults, $9.95 for ages 6-12 and free for ages 5 and under. Reservations are recommended for both.
Wichita Brewing Co. & Pizzeria, 8815 W. 13th St. North, 316-440-2885, and 535 N. Woodlawn, 316-440-4885: The restaurants are offering a $35-a-couple special that includes any appetizer, two entrees, a dessert and two beers.
Zaytun, 2020 N. Woodlawn, 316-613-2474: The Indian/Pakistani/Turkish restaurant will be serving a five-course meal that’s $35 a person from 5 to 10 p.m. on Feb. 12-14. Among the several entree choices will be salmon and Australian leg of lamb. The restaurant will also be serving a traditional pink tea topped with pistachios. Call for reservations.
Grace Hill Winery, 6310 S. Grace Hill Road, Whitewater: The winery is putting on two pre-Valentine’s Day events at 12:30 and 3 p.m. on Feb. 13. Attendees will get to sample several dishes, including crustless quiche and chocolate chili. Each course is paired with a Grace Hill wine. Admission is $25 a person and includes a wine glass. The Hungry Family cooking class: Local cooking instructor Natasha Gandhi-Rue is offering several Valentine’s Day-themed classes, including one on Valentine’s Day and one the night before. The Feb. 13 class is called “Make & Take: Valentine’s Dinner for Two” and will result in a beef Wellington dinner for two that students can take home and serve. It’s from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and is $100 a person. Then, on Feb. 14, she’s offering “Couples Cooking: Valentine’s Day Together” from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Four couples in attendance will cook, then dine together. It’s $120 a couple. Prairie Pines Playhouse, 4055 N. Tyler Road: This murder mystery dinner theater at Prairie Pines will run through Valentine’s weekend and includes a four-course dinner along with the play “Wake Me When I’m Dead.” Tickets are $36.95 to $46.95 depending on choice of entree (prime rib, chicken or vegetarian lasagna).
