Wichita is full of charity races, but I’m going to say Wichita Brewing Co. & Pizzeria has just come up with the best race ever. EVER.
On Sunday, March 13, the restaurant is putting on a cross-town, marathon-length relay that will start at its west side store at 13th and Tyler and finish at its east side store at Central and Woodlawn. Teams of six will split up the distance, which is 26.2 miles.
Wichita Brewing Co. co-owner Greg Gifford said he’s always wanted to put on a race similar to Brew to Brew, a 44.4 mile run that started at Boulevard Brewery in Kansas City and went to Free State Brewery in Lawrence.
“We’ve thought it’d be a cool idea for a long time, and now that we have the east location, we have another place to go,” he said.

The brewery is working with GoRun Wichita, which is coordinating with police to make the route, which will stay on bike paths as much as possible.
At the end, finishers will celebrate with free beer and pizza. Each runner gets two beers, pizza and a T-shirt. The staffs at the east- and west-side Wichita Brewing Companies will each have a team, and each is determined to beat the other, Gifford said.
Registration is $240 for a team of six or $90 for individuals. Proceeds from the race will benefit the Kansas Food Bank.
