Rita’s Italian Ice isn’t closed, it’s just not open sometimes

A few fans of Rita’s Italian Ice have driven past the local stores lately and noticed they were closed when they should have been open. Concerned, they asked me what was going on.

I got in touch with co-owner Jay Miller, and there’s no need for concern. The shop has reduced its hours at both its Old Town and east-side stores for the winter, when people are less excited about ingesting ice. The shops now are closed Mondays through Wednesdays but open the rest of the week. Most Rita’s shut down completely from October until spring, Miller said. But the Wichita franchisees didn’t want to do that.

The full schedule will resume on March 14.

Rita’s Italian Ice stores are at 2929 N. Rock Road and 1021 E. Douglas. The east-side store opened in March 2014, and Old Town’s opened in May.
