A new soul food restaurant in Wichita is a tribute to its owner’s mother and serves “anything that can come up out of the kitchen.”
Rhonda Williams opened Rachel’s Kitchen in November at 818 N. Mosley, in the space most recently occupied by Josephine’s Pantry and My Dad’s BBQ before that. Williams said she had run a day care for 25 years and wanted a career change. She always loved to cook, and opening a restaurant had been a dream of her mother, Rachel.
“She never got the chance to do it,” Williams said.
The menu includes catfish, ribs, chicken wings, chicken fried steak, homemade mac and cheese, yams, black eyed peas, collard greens, peach cobbler and more.

“You leave here feeling full and satisfied,” said Williams, who has help from three of her children and approval from her mother.
The restaurant has table service and is open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays and from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sundays.
