Don’t make the trek out west for a holiday lunch at Barroco Mexican Grill, the restaurant that opened at 2330 N. Maize Road in July.

It’s closed – for now.

The restaurant has a sign on the door that reads “Sorry for the inconvenience. We have some problems in the kitchen. Open soon.” On Nov. 25, the Wichita Fire Department tweeted about a fire at Barroco’s address, where crews “extinguished a small fire on the interior.” An employee at neighboring Planet Fitness was there the day the fire broke out and said Barroco had a small kitchen or electrical fire. The restaurant has been closed since then.

I’ve left messages with Barroco’s owners and will update this post if I hear back about a re-opening date.
