Dunkin’ Donuts Pumpkin Spice coffee provides cinnamon flavor without syrupy aftertaste

Each Wednesday in October, we’ll review a pumpkin spice-flavored offering available in Wichita grocery stores. This week: Dunkin’ Donuts Pumpkin Spice coffee.

Flavored coffee is not my favorite thing. Although I love a pot of hazelnut cream coffee in the fall, anything flavored with vanilla or cinnamon or chocolate usually has a strange, syrupy aftertaste. So I was not optimistic when I saw the bag of Dunkin’ Donuts Pumpkin Spice coffee on the shelf at my local Dillons.

But I was pleasantly surprised. This coffee doesn’t have an icky, sickly sweet aftertaste. Instead, it tastes a lot like the coffee brewer added some cinnamon and cloves to the coffee grounds before pressing the power button. And the aroma is amazing. When I brewed it in the newsroom, people followed the cinnamon scent right to my desk.

Yes, adding pumpkin pie spices to your coffee grounds will achieve the same result for less money. But if you want to save yourself the trouble, $6.99 for an 11-ounce bag isn’t a bad deal.
