I’m always happy to eat for a cause, especially when sticky rice and soup are involved.

Two fundraisers this weekend caught my eye and made me prematurely hungry.

One should help those harboring regrets from missing the recent Asian Festival. St. Anthony Church at 300 N. Ohio in Wichita is putting on a Vietnamese food sale from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday. People can by egg rolls, crab Rangoon, sticky rice, skewered barbecue beef, fried rice, pudding and more at the event. It’s available a la-carte or in bulk.

While there, bid on silent auction items for religious and secular items, including sea shell art, paintings, carvings, sculptures and icons. The auction ends at 4 p.m. on Sunday. Money raised goes toward repair and maintenance at the church.

Also, local Boy Scout Troop 735 is putting on a chili and soup feed that also will offer pulled pork sandwiches. It’s from 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Saturday at University Friends Church, 1840 W. University. I’ve been to this one, and the beef vegetable soup is the stuff of my dreams.

Visitors can get a pulled pork sandwich or soup plus dessert and drink for $6. Sandwiches alone are $4 and soup alone is $3. Soup and chili refills are $1. Take-out orders are available.
