Artichoke’s annual fish fry on Saturday

The annual fish fry at The Artichoke is on Saturday.
The annual fish fry at The Artichoke is on Saturday.

The Artichoke owner Pat Audley likes to show his appreciation for his customers by sharing his talents – particularly his talents for noodling catfish.

Audley is putting on his 33rd annual fish fry, which he throws each year as a customer appreciation party, starting at 5 p.m. Saturday at the Artichoke, 811 N. Broadway. Audley has been fishing all summer in the Arkansas River (with the appropriate license, he is quick to point out) and has accumulated more than 100 pounds of fish. On Saturday, patrons can enjoy catfish, red beans and rice, hush puppies and coleslaw.

The meals are free until the food runs out, which Audley predicts will happen around 8 p.m. Also on Saturday, the bar will host an open mike on the mobile Stage 5 made famous at the Walnut Valley Festival. The music starts at 6 p.m., but performers should arrive to sign up at 5 p.m.
