The Candle Club at at 6135 E. 13th St. N. has new owners, and now, it has a new chef.
Well-known Wichita chef Jeremy Wade, who recently parted ways with the Lakeside Club, is taking over the kitchen at the Candle Club. The two restaurants also happen to be Wichita’s two members-only supper clubs.
Wade left Lakeside Club in July after two and a half years on the job. He helped Alex Harb develop and open Meddys at 7906 E. Harry then decided he wanted to get back in the kitchen.
Wade starts his new job on Saturday and said he’s already working on redoing the Candle Club menu.

“We’re going to keep some things and improve some longstanding things,” he said. “Just the overall quality of the food will be better and will come out more efficiently.”
In June, former Scotch & Sirloin assistant manager Judah Craig, along with partners Cameron Huffman, Brian Thorton and Steve Ruud, took over management of the club from Louis Thompson, only the club’s third owner. He bought it in 2008 from Alta and Bill DeVore, who had bought it from original owners, brothers Ted and Tom Werts. (Read about the history of the club in this story I wrote in 2009.)
