The restaurant building at 2119 W. 21st St. that Noble House just vacated won’t be empty for long.

It appears that it will soon be taken over by a location of an Albuquerque-based birria restaurant called Birria Estilo Zacatecas that offers birria tacos, birria ramen and lots of other Mexican dishes.

The building, which Noble House left in late July, recently got a fresh coat of bright red paint and now has a “coming soon” sign attached to it. I heard back from the owners on Tuesday, and they said they planned to have the Wichita restaurant open on Oct. 1.

Wichita’s outpost, which will be the sixth in the chain, looks like the first Birria Estilo Zacatecas to open outside of Albuquerque, where customers give it positive online reviews. The restaurant specializes in Zacatecas-style birria, which is a slow-cooked beef stew that originated in the Mexican state of Zacatecas in north-central Mexico. There, the dish is often served on special occasions.

The first restaurant in the chain opened in Albuquerque before the COVID-19 pandemic, but it has recently been expanding. The menu features birria plates, ramen birria, taco birria, sopes, burritos, super nachos, chimichangas, tortas, rolled tacos, menudo and aquas frescas. It also serves breakfast.

The Albuquerque restaurants feature a Tuesday special during which customers can get 20 biriria tacos for $35. To inspect one of the Albuquerque menus, visit albuquerque.birriaestilozacatecas.com

Noble House, which specialized in poke and Hawaiian plate lunches, had been in the space on West 21st since January 2024. Its owner is now serving his dishes at Kayson Chong’s new Plentibloom food hall inside the Ruffin Building, 100 N. Broadway.

The building was put up in the late 1960s to house Taco Grande. It also served as the longtime home of Angela’s Cafe.
