German restaurant Prost closing its original address, starting move to new space

One sure sign that German restaurant Prost will soon be operating in its cavernous new two-story space on St. Francis: The restaurant will close its original restaurant in Revolutsia, the shipping container mall at 2721 E. Central, at the end of business on Saturday.

After that, owners Austin and Manu English will begin the process of moving items from their original restaurant, which is set up in stacked shipping containers, to their much larger new spot at 134 St. Francis, which sits just to the north of Bite Me BBQ and across the street from Nortons Brewing Company.

The Englishes and their crews have been working on their new 1900s-era building for months. They’ve designed it to resemble an authentic German beer hall, and it will have brick walls, wood accents, refinished church pew seating and original wood floors.

It also will include a massive upper level with a stage that can be used for private events or Prost’s own parties. The new Prost also will also have a big outdoor beer garden just to the north of the building.

The Englishes hope to have the new restaurant open by mid-September. They have to have it open in time for their annual Oktoberfest party, which they’re planning to put on in the new space Oct. 2-4.

Prost opened in 2018, shortly after Revolutsia did, and it’s been the flagship tenant there ever since. Those who want to enjoy a German beer and a bratwurst in its double-decker shipping container setup one last time can visit from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. through Saturday.

The owners say they’ll bring over the original restaurant’s eye-catching flags, which are visible from Central, and install them in the upper level of the new place.

The new, much-larger building also will be decorated with lots of unique items the Englishes purchased from former building owner Grant Rine, who owns an architectural salvage business.

They didn’t want to show off the almost-finished product just yet but allowed a few pictures of some of the pieces in the new space, including a 10-foot-tall by 8-foot-wide stained-glass “beer angel” on the main floor, two massive antique bar backs, and a dramatic stone lion that will watch over the outdoor beer garden.
