Young couple, both 19, opening Wichita shop focused on boba tea, vintage clothing
The Kung Fu Tea shop that opened in 2022 in New Leaf Plaza at 21st and Amidon quietly closed a few days ago.
But a new business will open in the space on Saturday, and it’s owners are a young couple, both only 19 years old.
Jacob Webber and Taylor Smith, who met while attending Campus High School in Haysville and both graduated in 2024, say their new shop will combine two things they love: boba tea and vintage fashion. They’re calling it Tea N’ Tee (as in T-shirts.)
The shop at 2120 N. Amidon will continue selling boba drinks and will have around 30 different options, including fruit and milk teas. But the owners also will fill the shop with racks of vintage clothing plus sneakers, both new and vintage.
“We’re both just very into fashion and shoes and stuff like that, and we also both love boba tea,” Webber said. “We thought they kind of went together and thought it was a good idea.”
Webber was attending college in Kansas City and studying business and marketing when his mother, Rent2own LLC owner Corrina Webber, approached the Kung Fu Tea franchisee and offered to take over the 21st and Amidon store. Owner Milo Pham posted both the 21st and Amidon shop and the shop at 1625 S. Rock Road for sale in April. She’s keeping the Rock Road location open, she said, and customers who have gift cards and rewards from the 21st and Amidon store can redeem them there. She is still looking for a buyer for the Rock Road shop, she said.
Webber said he decided to take a break from college to open his business.
He’s partnering with his girlfriend of nine months, Smith, whose specialty is boba. Smith has had experience working in restaurants around Wichita, Webber said.
Webber, the vintage expert, says the store will carry clothing from 2010 and before, including lots from the 1990s, plus T-shirts featuring Harley Davidson logos, cartoon images and “just anything that people desire.”
It will also carry both new and vintage sneakers, including Nike Air Jordans and brands like Asics and New Balance.
The owners will celebrate the grand opening on Saturday, and starting then, it will be open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.
To celebrate their opening day on Saturday, the owners will offer drink specials and giveaways for the first five customers through the doors. They’ll also hide freebie items in the store throughout the day.
