Attentive Old Town passers-by noticed on Tuesday that the sign finally went up on the Old Town building that soon will house Jinji Korean Grill and Bar at 210 N. Washington, a project that was announced in December.
The restaurant, which will specialize in Korean BBQ that customers grill at the table, could be open as early as Aug. 20. The cavernous, 4,000-square-foot space interior is complete, but owners are still waiting on things like dishes, speakers and television sets.
I popped in on Wednesday, Soomi Nam, who also owns the downtown and east-side Wasabi restaurants, was there lunching with her partner, William Kim. The dining room had tall ceilings and nice accents of wood and steel. It has a big bar area and eight tables set up to accommodate those who want to try Korean BBQ, which offers customer the opportunity to grill various meats on grills built into their tables. Hood systems above each table are designed to suck up all the smoke and cooking smells and take them away. Customers also can order from the menu and sit at regular tables without grills.
The restaurant will be open for lunch and dinner Mondays through Saturdays but likely will serve dinner only on Sundays. The restaurant also will have a patio.
Stay tuned for an official opening date.
