Intrust Bank Arena’s first Wingapalooza will offer all-you-can-eat wings, beer and more.

August is only a day away, and it will be filled with several fun food competitions and sampling events.

One is new. Two are annual. All three warrant a spot on your calendar.

They are:

Wingapalooza, 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Aug. 15, Intrust Bank Arena: The arena’s new food event, a chicken wing tasting-a-thon, already has 20 vendors signed up, and organizers are hoping to add even more. It will take place inside the arena on the main floor and will feature all-you-can-eat wings prepared by Wichita-area restaurants, including The Anchor, The Monarch, The Hungry Heart, Gianni Bacci’s, Oasis Lounge and more. Attendees also can enjoy a beer garden stocked with local craft beer. Participants will complete for two awards: a People’s Choice award and a “Lord of the Wings” judge’s choice award. The event also will include a DJ playing live music. (Restaurants interested in participating should contact Josh Howell at josh.howell@intrustbankarena.com or 316-440-9013. There’s no fee to participate, and the arena will provide all the wings.) Tickets are $20 in advance and will be $25 the day of the event. Advance tickets are available at Intrust Bank Arena box office, at 316-755-7328 at www.selectaseat.com and at Select-A-Seat outlets. Iron ChileHead Competition, noon-3 p.m. Aug. 22, Johnson’s Garden Center, 2707 W. 13th: This event, designed to celebrate the hatch green chiles that Johnson’s Garden Centers owner Marty Johnson hauls back from Hatch, N.M., each year, is back for its third installment. It features food trucks competing to make the best green chile-centric recipe and local breweries offering beer samples. The food trucks participating are B.S. Sandwich Press, Let’m eat Brats, Chino’s Parrilla, The Kamayan Truck, Mr. Natural Soul Kitchen, Ms. Tosha’s Fried Chicken & Fries, Kind Kravings and The Anchor. People who visit can buy dishes from the food trucks and get free samples of beers made by local brewers using green chiles. The participating breweries are Central Standard Brewing, Hank is Wiser Brewery, Hopping Gnome Brewing, River City Brewing, Walnut River Brewing, Wichita Brewing Co., Tallgrass Brewing Company and Wheat State Distilling. Admission is free, but beer sampling tickets are $10 and include a commemorative glass, a voting token and a $5 gift card to the garden center.

Wichita Burger Battle, 3 to 6 p.m. Aug. 22, Lawrence-Dumont Stadium, 300 S. Sycamore: The annual burger competition, a fundraiser for Ketch, begins as soon as the ChileHead competition ends. It’s moved from Old Cowtown to Lawrence-Dumont Stadium this year, and attendees can sample burgers from Fizz, Five Guys, Mooyah, Intrust Bank Arena, Emerson Biggin’s Old Town, Bricktown Brewery and more. They also get sides, desserts and drinks. Tickets are $40 for VIP entry, $25 for adults and $5 for children ages 3 to 12. All tickets include admission to the Wichita Wingnuts game that starts at 7 p.m. For tickets, visit ictburgerbattle.com or call 316-383-8889.
