What happened to the Kellogg & West Starbucks? And where’s Wichita’s next Starbucks going?

Starbucks is always up to something.

At the moment, the coffee chain is currently up to something on both the east and west sides of Wichita.

First, the west side: Coffee drinkers have been able to get a fix at the Starbucks at Kellogg and West Street for the past 20 years. But recently, the store closed, the sign came off the building, and a giant dumpster appeared outside.

But there’s no reason to worry: A sign on the door says that the closing is only temporary. Though crews have completely gutted the interior, the Starbucks will reopen with an updated look. Starbucks tends to remodel its stores every 10 years, and the last remodel at Kellogg and West happened in 2014.

A spokesperson for Starbucks confirmed this week that the store is undergoing a “standard renovation” and would reopen in mid May with an extended drive-through lane plus digital menu and order status boards.

Starbucks fans will also remember that the Central and Rock store closed in the summer of 2022 for an upgrade and didn’t reopen for several weeks.

A new Starbucks for northeast Wichita

A Starbucks spokesperson also confirmed late last week that the city is on track to get yet another location. This one will be at 13th Street and Lindberg Circle — which is just a little farther east than the Bonefish Grill in the Waterfront, 13th and Webb. It should open in early 2025.

The new Starbucks will be practically next door to Wichita’s second Mokas coffee shop, scheduled to open in July or August at 13th in the Veranda development at 13th and Veranda.
