Harrison Ford ends his Wichita visit, leaving on a jet plane that — oddly — isn’t his
It appears that Harrison Ford has left Wichita on a jet plane.
But in an unusual twist, it wasn’t his own jet plane.
Two different locals emailed to say that they encountered Ford on Thursday evening at Wichita’s Dwight D. Eisenhower Airport, where he apparently boarded a United flight to Denver.
Shawny Montgomery, an art teacher at Cheney High School, was on Ford’s flight, which was delayed and boarded around 6:15 p.m., she said.
Montgomery, who was with her husband, Rob, was on her way to Seattle to visit her daughter and had a connecting flight in Denver. In Wichita, she was right behind Ford in the back of the boarding line and admitted she was “freaking out a little.”
Montgomery said she worked up the courage to ask Ford for a selfie with a “photo pick up line” she quickly devised: “I’m an art teacher and would love to take a picture with you to share with my students.”
Ford, who sat in first class, kindly obliged.
“I was nervous to ask for a photo because I would have been devastated meeting my celebrity crush had he said no,” she said. “But he was super nice and almost a little shy.”
Jenna Norris, a para for the Circle School District, also sent in a selfie with Ford from the airport on Thursday. She was on her way to Destin, Florida, she said, and spotted him having lunch at the airport.
She paid his bill.
“Such a humble person,” Norris said. “He was very thankful and called me sweetheart and a doll.”
Ford’s annual visit to Wichita for pilot training started on Sunday evening and included dinners at Scotch & Sirloin and Lotte and a whole lot of breakfast outings to HomeGrown in downtown Wichita.
Locals always enjoy hearing where he dined while in town, and the star is reported to kindly pose for selfies when approached by fans. Most restaurant owners who have welcomed Ford as a guest over the years say that Wichitans are generally respectful and don’t interrupt the star while he’s eating.
Until next year, Han Solo!
