The former Kookaburra Coffee building on West Central is about to get a new tenant
The former Kookaburra Coffee space at 9414 W. Central has been vacant since June, when owner Rebecca Fox closed her 5-year-old business.
Soon, though, it will have a leafy new tenant.
Catherine Le, who three years ago opened her tiny Leaf Teahouse ICT at 1912 E. Pawnee, is expanding her business into the former Kookaburra space, which is in the Westlink shopping center near Central and Tyler.
She’s currently renovating the west-side spot and giving it a tropical look, full of leafy plants, a moss wall and lots of seating. Le hopes to have it open sometime in March, said the store’s manager, Kelly Nguyen.
On Pawnee, the shop focuses mostly on boba drinks, milk teas and fruit teas and offers only a few coffee beverages. But the new shop on West Central will serve a big coffee menu, Nguyen said.
The west-side location will be more of a cafe, Nguyen said, and it will be three times bigger than the Pawnee store. Though it won’t serve food at first, Le is considering adding it in the future.
Le plans to keep the Pawnee store, which she renovated last year, open as well. Just like the Pawnee location, the west-side Leaf Teahouse ICT will be open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesdays through Sundays.
Le had been looking for a second location since last summer, Nguyen said.
“We had other buildings in mind, but it didn’t work out,” she said. “This building came to us at a good time.”
I’ll let you know when Le chooses an opening date.
