What restaurant is going into the new construction at 53rd North and Meridian?
A construction project across the street from the Walmart at 53rd North and Meridian has had a few readers wondering if a new restaurant will be opening at the corner, which already has a McDonald’s and a Braum’s.
In fact, the new building is the future home of a Taco Bell, said Sergio Roman, director of operations for Wichita-based Fugate Enterprises, which has 75 Taco Bell restaurants throughout the Midwest. It should be ready to open by mid to late February, he said.
“That’s just an area of town that we don’t have covered, and obviously we always want to provide as much access as possible,” he said.
The new Taco Bell — the first the company has built in Wichita for some time, he said — will have a slightly updated look from other Taco Bells in town. It sits next door to a Dollar Tree store.
“We’ve been eyeing that corner for a long time,” he said. “We finally made it happen, and it’s pretty exciting.”
Fugate Enterprises, which was started in Wichita 50 years ago, also has around 150 Pizza Hut restaurants across many states.
