Wichita Chick-fil-A reopens after a two-week remodel with this big improvement
One of Wichita’s busiest fast food restaurants — and with it one of the city’s busiest drive-through lanes — has been shut down for more than two weeks.
But on Thursday, the Chick-fil-A restaurant at Central and Rock Road reopened with several upgrades installed during a remodel that started on Nov. 25.
Among the upgrades: A new drive-through door has been installed in place of the drive-through window, which franchisee Andrew Nelson said will help the staff serve customers even more efficiently.
The sliding double doors let employees walk food that’s ready out to cars that are waiting in the drive-through lane, even if they’re not the first car in line. The method allows people to move on as soon as the lane is clear, which keeps the overall lane moving more quickly. Nelson opened his newest Chick-fil-A at K-96 and Greenwich with such a door and says it’s superior to the traditional drive-through window.
The Central and Rock restaurant — which was the city’s first free-standing Chick-fil-A when it opened in 2012 — got several other improvements during the remodel, including an expansion of the drive-through service area and the addition of a dedicated space at the restaurant’s front counter where people who place mobile orders can pick up their food.
The Chick-fil-A at Central and Rock has now resumed its normal hours: 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays.
