Towne East Square food court about to add a new food vendor with a straightforward menu
The Towne East Square food court space that until early this year was occupied by a restaurant called Athens will soon get a new vendor.
Arturo Villanueba, who is the manager at Andover’s Rio Grill and Cantina, has teamed up with a few friends for a straightforward mall eatery they’ll call BurgDogs. It should be open in about a month, maybe sooner, Villanueba said.
The restaurant’s menu will be simple so as to not to compete with other vendors in the food court. The partners plan to serve hamburgers, hot dogs and fries.
Villaneuba described his chance to open his own concept in the mall “a nice opportunity.”
Athens, which specialized in build-your-own wraps and bowls with Greek- and Mediterranean-style ingredients, previously operated in the spot BurgDogs is taking over. It had been there since 2019 and was run by Bader Rahali, the onetime owner of Marrakech Cafe at 6257 E. 21st St
Rahali went on to open a new restaurant in the spring: Athens Gyros Express at 2800 E. Central.
