Raise a stein, grab a brat and celebrate Oktoberfest season, Wichita
This summer was a hellish scorcher that seemed like it would never end.
But the fact that the Wichita calendar is filling up with Oktoberfest parties is a sign that maybe, just maybe, fall has actually arrived.
Here’s a rundown of the Oktoberfest parties happening in the coming days and weeks that will help usher in autumn with polka, beer and lederhosen.
Oktoberfest at Prost, Sept. 29-Oct. 1, 2721 E. Central: This German restaurant is bringing its traditional Oktoberfest celebration back, and it will feature food, German beer, contests, games, a stein-holding contest, live polka music and more. Admission to the family-friendly event is free, but those who want to enjoy beer will need a ticket that includes a glass stein to keep. An event pass good for all three days is $40, a one-day pass is $30, and a two-day pass is $35. The party runs from 5 to 9 p.m. Sept. 29 and from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sept. 30 and Oct. 1. Oktoberfest at Elderslie Farm, Sept. 30-Oct. 1, 3501 E. 101st St. North, Kechi: This Kechi farm known for its fine dining, blackberry bramble and goat cheese creamery is throwing an Oktoberfest party this year that will include beer, pretzels and bratwurst for sale as well as games, horse-drawn carriage rides, live music and more. The event lasts from 2 to 10 p.m. on both Sept. 30 and Oct. 1 and advance tickets are $10 for ages 3 and up at eventbrite.com or $15 at the gate.
Oktoberfest at Blessed Sacrament Church, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 1, Church of the Blessed Sacrament, 125 N. Quentin: This church is bringing back its big Oktoberfest party, which includes authentic German food and beer for sale plus live music from The Fabulous Shirtheads, the Blooming Idiots and Harrison Steele. Inflatables for kids also will be set up, and wristbands to bounce will be $10 at the door. Admission is free until 6 p.m., and then it’s $5. Non church members are welcome.
ICT Bloktoberfest, Oct. 7-8, Union Station, 701 E. Douglas: Xclusive Events and Sledgehammer Creative is bringing its big Oktoberfest party back for 2022. The two-day party at Union Station Plaza will include food, beer, games, wiener dog races, food eating contest and even a “dad bod” contest. The event, the group’s seventh annual, will start on Oct. 7 with a Beer Fest featuring more than 99 beers to sample. It requires a ticket that’s $50 in advance or $60 the day of the event.
