This Wichita restaurant has been closed for nine weeks. This week, its fans got it back
It’s been a long, hummus-free summer for fans of Mediterranean Grill, Mustapha Sawli’s 15-year-old Mediterranean restaurant at 333 S. Towne East Mall Drive.
The restaurant has been closed since July 18 for big remodel, but it’s finally ready to start serving again, said Sawli, who on Monday morning was frantically preparing for his 11 a.m. reopening.
“It was a big renovation,” he said. “Everything looks just completely different.”
Initially, he’d hoped to be closed for about a month while he installed a new bar, new booths and tables, new lighting and a new kitchen. But the project took nine weeks — and it’s still not entirely done. Sawli is still waiting on his new lighting, which has been delayed because of supply chain issues. But he decided to go ahead and open with temporary lighting.
Sawli said his regulars have been eager for his return.
“They’ve been calling me every day,” he said.
Mediterranean Grill’s hours are 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays.
