Three restaurant openings are scheduled for the next two days in Wichita
By week’s end, Wichita will have at least three new restaurants to choose from.
Two longtime favorites are reopening in new spaces, and one longtime favorite is adding a new location.
Here are the openings coming up on Thursday and Friday:
Caesar’s Table, 151 N. Main: Sam Kuns, who six years ago opened his buffet restaurant Caesar’s Table at 125 N. Market, shared in April that he was planning to move the business up the street to the cafe space at the Meritrust Credit Union headquarters, 151 N. Main. Now, the move is nearly complete, and the restaurant — which has been closed since April 8 — will reopen on Thursday. The hours will be 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. Caesar’s Table, which will be in a smaller space, will no longer be a mega-buffet restaurant but will instead have more cafeteria-style service with a special of the day and a salad bar.
La Isla, 21st and Broadway: Another restaurant that’s changing spaces is La Isla, which Jose Gandara and his wife, Yuliana, have been operating at 1935 N. Broadway since 2015. They recently closed their tiny restaurant there in anticipation of moving it to the Old New Market Place strip center on the southwest corner of 21st and Broadway. Opening day is Friday, and after that, it will be open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursdays and Mondays, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Fridays, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturdays and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sundays. It will be closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays. The menu will be the same as at the original, with a few additions. La Isla specializes in Mexican seafood dishes like ceviche, aguachiles, oysters on the half shell and shrimp cocktail.
Hibachi Boy, 3010 E. Central: The first franchised location of Hibachi Boy, the quick-service Japanese restaurant that also has locations at 2243 N. Tyler Road and 1220 N. Rock Road in Derby, will open on Friday in the former Bocco Deli space at 3010 E. Central. The restaurant, which will be owned by Dan Nguyen, will have the same menu as the originals and the same hours: 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily. Nguyen, who is a longtime friend of the son of Hibachi Boy owners Philip Sayvong and Lou Kumgool, has also said he plans to open Hibachi Boy restaurants in Kansas City and Lawrence. Hibachi Boy offers hibachi meals with choice of meat, a sushi menu, fried rice and more.
