Wichita loses one of its Outback restaurants; something ‘exciting’ will take its place
G’day, mates.
Unless you’re a Bloomin’ Onion fan who lives on the east side of Wichita. Then it’s not as g’ of a day.
Wichita’s east-side Outback Steakhouse, which has operated at 2020 N. Rock Road in Bradley Fair since 1993, permanently closed at the end of business on Sunday, April 24, said Elizabeth Daly, the director of media and community relations for Outback.
She said the restaurant’s lease was expiring, so the chain decided to close.
Wichita’s west-side Outback, which opened in 1999 at Maple and Ridge, is still operating. Employees at the east-side Outback were given the opportunity to either transfer to the west-side store or receive severance, Daly said.
Bradley Fair spokeswoman Abbey Wolfert, who works for shopping center owner WS Development, said the company has something exciting planned for the spot that Outback occupied but that she couldn’t share details about exactly what just yet. An announcement should come sometime this year.
“They have been a great tenant throughout their years at Bradley Fair, and we wish their team the best of luck,” WS Development marketing manager Amanda Stiebens said in an e-mail. “We are excited for what’s to come at Bradley Fair and will inform you on new developments as soon as we can.”
