Wichita Mexican restaurant Lalo’s Express expanding with second location on the west side
A longtime Wichita Mexican restaurant is expanding and taking over a space on Wichita’s west side that was recently vacated by another Mexican food business.
And it will be the third local restaurant in four years to try a second location in the spot.
Lalo’s Express, a quick Mexican food restaurant that has been a popular fixture on South Seneca for more than 15 years, is taking over the spot at 2110 N. Maize Road that has been vacant since Alejandro’s Quick Mexican Food closed.
Lalo’s Express first operated at 1533 S. Seneca before moving to its current spot in a one time Taco Tico in 2014. It serves items like burritos, tacos and combo plates as well as breakfast plates and breakfast burritos.
Before Alejandro’s, whose flagship restaurant still operates at 1212 S. Rock Road, moved into the space on North Maize Road, Tacos Lopez at 795 N. West St. opened a second location there. It survived less than a year.
The new Lalo’s Express, which will serve food for both dine-in and to-go, will have a soft opening on Maize Road on Thursday. The hours at the new place will be 7 a.m. to midnight Mondays through Saturdays and 9 a.m. to midnight Sundays. Like the Seneca restaurant, the new one will also have a drive through.
The restaurant on South Seneca will remain open as well.
