Wichita coffee shop owner expands presence in Newton area, purchasing a second shop there
Reverie Coffee Roasters owner Andrew Gough has already established himself as a coffee magnate in Wichita.
Now, it appears, he’s preparing to dominate the coffee scene in nearby Newton as well.
Gough, who three weeks ago took over ownership of longtime North Newton favorite Mojo’s Coffee Bar on the campus of Bethel College, is now adding another Newton coffee shop to his collection.
Murray Anderson, who in 2016 turned a broken down car wash at 12th and Main in Newton into a drive-through coffee shop he called 12 Brew Drive Thru, recently agreed to sell that business to Gough, his coffee supplier. Anderson also owns Gurty’s Burgers & Shakes in Newton.
Gough approached Anderson about the purchase shortly before he announced his Mojo’s acquisition, he said, and Anderson agreed. Gough will take over ownership on March 1 and said he plans to close the business for a couple of days before reopening it as Reverie Roasters Express. He also has plans to eventually spruce up the building and give it a new look.
Gough, who said he’s long wanted to try the drive-through concept, said he’ll keep 12 Brew Drive Thru customers’ favorite drinks on the menu and will also add his own. He also plans to keep the hours roughly the same.
Mojo’s, whose address is 300 E. 27th St. North, reopened on Jan. 11 as Reverie Roasters at Mojos. Gough bought that shop from owner Patty Meier, who decided she wanted to slow down.
Reverie Coffee Roasters in Wichita operates at 2202 E. Douglas.
