Opening day for Wichita’s fifth Meddys restaurant is set for this week.

Alex Harb, who earlier this year announced plans to open a Meddys in the former BurgerFi space at NewMarket Square, 2441 N. Maize Road, says that the restaurant will open on Thursday.

The new Meddys is designed to look like the already established Meddys restaurants and will also have a bar serving craft cocktails. The large enclosed patio will feature live music Wednesdays through Saturdays during seasonable weather, and Harb said he’s hoping to find a couple of warm December days to have music on the patio yet this year.

The patio, which will have heaters, will seat between 70 and 80 people. Inside, there will be seating for about 100. The new restaurant’s hours will be 10:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.

Harb said this will likely be his last Meddys in Wichita, and once it’s up and running, he plans to focus on his expansion into the Kansas City market. He’s already leased a space for a restaurant in Prairie Village, which he hopes to have open by April, and is also looking for sites in Lee’s Summit and Liberty.

Harb’s first Meddys, a quick-service restaurant focused on fresh Mediterranean fare, opened in 2014 at 7906 E. Harry, followed by 21st and Greenwich in 2016, He opened his third Meddys downtown at 120 S. Washington in late 2018, and it became the design prototype he wanted to adopt for all future restaurants. Over the next two years, he retrofitted his first two restaurants with that design. The Meddys at 560 S. Ridge Road has been operating for a little more than a year.
