Another chance to get free Nu-Way root beer and a copy of ‘Classic Restaurants of Wichita’
Here’s another chance to pick up a copy of “Classic Restaurants of Wichita” before the holidays at one of Wichita’s most classic restaurants.
On Tuesday, I’ll return to the Nu-Way at 1406 W. Douglas for a second signing, and there’s free root beer to be had. I’ll be at the restaurant from 4 to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 14, and anyone who visits during that time will be served a free frosty mug of Nu-Way’s famous root beer. (Books are $21.99.)
Local history buffs know that Nu-Way, which is still serving up the crumbly-is-good loose meat sandwiches that Tom McEvoy first started offering out of the building on July 4, 1930, is the oldest restaurant in Wichita still operating in the same place it opened. Its history is detailed in the book, which is a look back at the iconic restaurants that are gone but that locals will never forget — places like the Innes Tea Room, Fife and Drum, Lazy-R, Chateau Briand, Cafe Chantilly and more.
