Sleek new shop that serves flaming boba tea, decadent desserts is opening in east Wichita
Wichita is about to get a new high-end boba tea and dessert shop whose specialty is on fire — literally.
The first location of Feng Cha should open sometime in December in Eastgate Place, the same strip center on the southeast corner of Kellogg and Rock Road that also has Aldi, TJMaxx and more.
Franchisee K. Nguyen said that he’s taking over a vacant spot at 8007 E. Kellogg that sits on the west side of Aldi, just behind Firehouse Subs. Construction has already begun.
The chain started in China in 2016 and has spread out to include more than 1,000 stores worldwide. In recent years, the brand expanded into the United States, where it has headquarters in Addison, Texas.
The shops have sleek, modern — and mostly white — interiors with contemporary furniture, and they serve a large menu of boba tea drinks, various cakes in flavors like matcha and taro chocolate and other specialty drinks. But it’s known for its “dirty boba” — a creme brulee flavored drink topped with cheese foam and set on fire before it’s served.
Nguyen, a local businessman, said he decided to bring the franchise to Wichita because he’s always looking for a nice place to meet clients to discuss business. He’d visited a Feng Cha and loved it and decided that’s the kind of place he’d like to have in Wichita.
Several months ago, he and a partner opened a Feng Cha in Edmond, Oklahoma, and it’s doing well, he said.
“We have so many people from Wichita coming down there that I decided to bring the franchise here, too,” he said.
Nguyen said he’s opening the Wichita store on his own and that he hopes to open another one on the west side next year.
Feng Cha translates from Chinese to “to serve tea respectfully.”
Once open, Feng Cha’s hours will be 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily, Nguyen said. Stay tuned for news about opening day.
