Brazilian street food arrives in Wichita this weekend
You might never make it to Brazil to sample that country’s unique cuisine.
Starting this weekend, though, you can try one of its most popular street food snacks without leaving Wichita.
Saturday is the much anticipated opening day for Brazita Bites, a new food truck by Rio de Janeiro native Rodrigo Ciriaco. The truck will be parked from 11:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m on Saturday on Dellrose, behind the FasTrax Car Wash at 575 Oliver.
Ciriaco and his wife, Jessica, had hoped for a big opening day party, but because of COVID-19, they’ve scaled back their plans. Instead, they’ll be serving food to-go from the truck and will also deliver for a $4 fee orders that meet an $8 minimum. Orders can be placed online Saturday at www.brazitabites.com.
The truck serves coxinha, which are fried dough balls stuffed with various fillings — a popular snack in Brazil that Ciriaco would always enjoy with his friends. Though they’re traditionally filled with chicken, Brazita Bites will serve the coxinha in several other varieties too, both sweet and savory.
The opening day menu will include fillings like pepperoni, beef, cheese and ham as well as sweet options like churro bites filled with dulce de leite, and Brigadeiro cups, which are Brazilian chocolate truffles.
A typical order of 10 coxinha will cost $8-$10. Sweet options are less.
Ciriaco moved to Wichita to play soccer and study at Friends. After he graduated, he got married and decided to stay. He and his wife came up with the name for the truck by combining the words “Brazil” and “Wichita.”
