One of Wichita’s most popular breweries is about to reopen after almost six months
It’s been a long, lonely six months for fans of Central Standard Brewing, the popular Wichita brewery and tap room at 156 S. Greenwood.
The well-known hangout with the retractable garage doors has been closed since March 15, when COVID-19 took hold in Wichita and businesses started to shut down. Fans of the brewery’s strong and sour beers have been able to get them to go throughout the closure, but they haven’t been able to share them in person with other regulars.
That’s all about to change, though. The owners of CSB plan to reopen the 5-year-old brewery to the public on Tuesday.
There will be some temporary changes, though, the main one being that people will have to remain outdoors. Seating will be open on the taproom’s regular patio, and there’s also new beer garden space on the building’s south side.
The new Open Air ICT program is allowing the business to use that area, and now, it’s filled with picnic tables and covered stringed lights, said co-owner Emily Boyd.
“It’s actually pretty magical under those trees with the lights,” she said.
Another change: Customers will be required to stay seated and order beers from wait staff.
Masks will be required when people aren’t sitting at their tables, and they’ll also be required when visitors come indoors to shop for merchandise or use the restroom.
Customers will still be able to get beer to go, too, Boyd said. The brewery’s curbside-to-go program has been popular and will continue.
Starting Tuesday, the hours will be 3 to 10 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays.
