Wichita Wendy’s franchisee has been building new restaurants, remodeling old ones
For a few years now, Wichita McDonald’s restaurants have been getting major remodels that turn them into sleek, Wi-Fi-ready, ultra-modern versions of their old selves.
Now, Wendy’s is following suit.
Attentive fans of Baconators and the Frosty may have spotted a couple of notable Wendy’s upgrades in Wichita over the past several months.
First, a new Wendy’s with an all-new look opened at 37th and Ridge Road in mid-May. Outside, the new design features a much taller facade with an all-glass front, picnic tables outside, stonework columns, upgraded landscaping and a new logo with a more modern font. Inside, there’s a new layout, Wi-Fi and a Coca-Cola Freestyle machine boasting flavors exclusive to Wendy’s, like Cherry Cream and Orange Cream sodas.
Next, an existing Wendy’s at 2120 N. Woodlawn that featured the old look — a more squat building with lots of brick — was completely remodeled. The new look was debuted in mid-July, and although it’s not as dramatic as the Ridge Road restaurant, it also has the taller facade with lots of glass in front.
Both of the new Wendy’s are owned by California-based Cotti Foods, which has 49 restaurants in the Midwest.
The company has been gradually building new Wendy’s and bringing old ones up to date in the area, said Shane Gray, the company’s vice president of marketing.
In 2019, it opened new Wendy’s in Augusta and one at 4821 S. Broadway in Wichita and also remodeled stores in Arkansas City and Winfield. In 2020, it not only opened the new restaurant on Ridge and remodeled the one on Woodlawn, but it also remodeled a restaurant in Andover.
The plan for 2021 includes more Wichita remodels, he said.
“Wichita has just been a fantastic market for us,” Gray said. “It’s a great community where people love Wendy’s.”
