Long-awaited Round 1 entertainment complex at Wichita’s Towne East mall to open this week

Round 1, the big entertainment complex that Wichita learned almost a year ago would move into Towne East Square, is almost ready to open.

Managers with the business — a combination bowling, arcade, billiards, karaoke and dining venue — say it is scheduled for a grand opening on Saturday, July 18.

The venue, which is on the mall’s lower level near JC Penney, took over about 44,000 square feet that, in part, used to hold Wright Career College. Four other businesses were moved to accommodate the massive venue.

Inside, people will find lots of arcade games, bowling alleys that include cosmic bowling options, karaoke including private karaoke rooms, darts, ping pong, billiards and a Kids Play Zone.

The venue also sells food and drink. The menu includes things like pizza, burgers, chicken wings, salads, nachos, churros and ice cream. There’s also wine, beer and sake mixed drinks.

Local managers said they’re still ironing out details for opening day, including what COVID-19 precautions they plan to take.

The sign has been up outside for weeks, and this week, crews were seen moving colorful games into the building’s west-facing entrance.

Round 1 is a Japan-based chain that started in 1980, offering roller skating and arcade games. It eventually expanded and added bowling, becoming Round 1 in 1993.

Watch The Eagle and Kansas.com next week for a sneak-peak tour of the new venue.
