Two of Wichita’s three Denny’s restaurants will not reopen post-coronavirus
Wichita is now a one Denny’s town.
A manager at Wichita’s last remaining Denny’s — a corporate-owned 24-hour diner at 4024 E. Harry — said that the Denny’s at 5700 W. Kellogg and 8030 E. Kellogg are now permanently closed.
Denny’s corporate confirmed the news in an e-mailed statement.
“Due to the severe financial environment caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, our franchisee in this area has regrettably decided to close these locations. Denny’s has been working with its franchise owners to assist in helping them through this crisis, but the final decision to close is in the hands of each franchise business owner and their particular circumstances.”
Both Kellogg restaurants, owned by an Oklahoma-based franchisee, closed at the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic. The Harry restaurant remained open for carryout throughout pandemic shutdowns and now is back open.
The West Kellogg Denny’s has been open since at least the 1980s. The East Kellogg restaurant opened in 2009, at the conclusion of the big road construction project at Kellogg and Rock. It had previously operated for years at 8100 E. Kellogg, but that location was torn down two years previous.
