Peruse the menu for The Belmont, the hip new restaurant that opens in Wichita this week

Tuesday is opening day for The Belmont, the airy, modern new restaurant at 3555 E. Douglas.

Over the weekend, people driving down East Douglas toward College Hill no doubt noticed crowds inside the space, which can be completely open to the outdoors on three sides, as the restaurant invited friends and family in for test runs.

Starting on Tuesday, The Belmont’s hours will be 4 to 10 p.m. Tuesdays through Thursdays, 4 to midnight Fridays and Saturdays, and 4 to 10 p.m. Sundays. It will be closed on Mondays.

While you wait, here’s a look at the restaurant’s menu, which — as promised — is a simple collection of what the owners called “American food.” You can peruse it below.

A highlight of the menu appears to be the bruschetta boards, which feature four servings of sliced batard loaf topped with various ingredients. A few of the many choices: Ricotta, micro greens and sopresseta; cream cheese, pepper jam and fresh chiles fig; and pesto, mozzarella and tomato.

There are also three different burgers, including a veggie burger, a few other sandwiches, a list of salads, and entrees like fried chicken served with bacon fat honey, potato salad and a biscuit. There’s also a rib eye cooked in cast iron and served with garlic mushrooms, charred onions and tomato relish.

The restaurant’s horseshoe-shaped bar serves up beer, wine and several signature cocktails, including the Old Town Square, made with tequila, aperol, grapefruit syrup, tarragon, seltzer water and sea salt spray.

The Belmont, which has taken over the former Dean’s Designs space in Happiness Plaza, is owned by Tory DeMarce and his wife, Melanie, who is a Wichita native, along with brothers Ryan and Anthony Francisco, investors who live in Phoenix but grew up in Wichita.

Owners had planned a March opening, but then coronavirus hit. The staff — including chef Jacob Cook — spent the time fine-tuning the restaurant and serving meals to local homeless shelters and hospitals.

The dining room is appointed with modern furniture, cozy lighting and garage doors that can turn the restaurant into the most open-air indoor eatery Wichita has.
