Now that Wichita bars can sell cocktails to go, several favorites are back in the game

It came a little late in the game, but in this case, late is better than never.

On Wednesday, Gov. Laura Kelly signed an executive order effectively giving Wichita restaurants and bars the temporary permission to sell cocktails to go. Much online celebrating immediately ensued.

Since then, several Wichita favorites have scrambled to come up with ways to get their cocktails-to-go into the hands of thirsty locals. In some cases, it’s involved the invention of some inventive packaging, since the drinks must be sealed in tamper-proof containers when they leave the premises.

Just in time for weekend partying, here’s a little list of some Wichita establishments that are taking advantage of the new order and have come up with new cocktails to go.

6S Steakhouse, 6200 W. 21st St.: Offering “quarantini” cocktails to go with carry-out and delivery orders. Call 316-361-6667.

The Anchor, 11090 E. Douglas: This bar is selling a variety of 16-ounce craft cocktails to go, including a Lemon Blueberry Smash and a traditional margarita with cinnamon tequila.

Douglas: This new tiki bar has been closed for weeks, but starting early next week, it’ll sell some of its popular drinks to-go, including half-gallon versions of its pineapple daiquiris and mojitos. The Monarch, 579 W. Douglas: Bourbon slushes packaged in 30-ounce containers went on sale Friday at this Delano bar, known for its bourbon selection. They’re $20 each. Also available: 16-ounce house-infused apple bourbon sours with two Monarch high ball glasses for $25. Call 316-201-6626 to order.

Felipe’s, 3434 W. Central and 119th and Maple: “Game Changer” is what Felipe’s is calling its newfound ability to sell Flaming Cazuelas and margaritas to go. Drinks to go are also available at 2241 N. Woodlawn and at Felipe’s Jr. at 9718 E. Harry.
