Wichita sushi favorite Kanai is closed, this time for good
Kanai, one of Wichita’s favorite sushi providers for the last 10 years, is closed.
This time, it’s really closed.
On Tuesday evening, co-owner Mari Kanai posted on Facebook that she and her chef husband, David, decided even before coronavirus became an issue that they were through with the to-go business they’d been operating ever since they closed the restaurant at 12111 W. Maple for daily service back in July.
The couple is moving to New Orleans once the world calms back down, she said.
“Wichita is forever our home,” she wrote. “We will miss it and are carrying all the memories with our hearts.”
The Kanais first announced over the summer that they planned to close the longtime restaurant and focus on catering. But customers revolted, and a month later they announced that they would reopen as a carryout business. For awhile, they were even discussing plans to open a Kanai food truck.
Their last service was last weekend.
