Update: Wichita German sausage dinner changed to drive-through only

UPDATE: On Friday afternoon, St. Joseph Catholic Parish decided to turn its dinner into a drive-through only event after Sedgwick County banned public gatherings of more than 250 people.

The dinner must go on, at least at St. Joseph Catholic Parish, which is staging its big fundraising dinner this weekend.

As of Friday morning, officials at the church said that their 60th annual German Sausage dinner was still a go.

It will happen from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at the St. Joseph Catholic Parish, a church with an attached school at 132 S. Millwood. The church usually serve between 2,300 and 2,500 people, who feast on sausage, sliced roast beef, mashed potatoes, corn, sliced bread and pie. The meal is served family-style, and church volunteers keep bringing food until their guests are full.

About 400 church volunteers work on the dinner each year, and attendees can take part in old fashioned church carnival games at the school gym across the street.

Admission to the dinner is $10 a ticket, free for ages 5 and under. They’ll be available at the door on Sunday.
