West Wichita restaurant is closing, but it’s not yet clear exactly when, for how long
West Wichita is losing one of its most unique restaurants. The questions now are: when and for how long?
Poke Mix, the build-your-own poke restaurant that opened in 2017 at 8918 W. 21st St., just in front of the west Warren Theatre, is closing soon, the owners announced on Facebook late Monday.
They’ve decided not to extend their lease, they said, mainly because it doesn’t have a grease trap or hood, and they feel those are needed to expand the concept. They hope to stay open through the end of the summer while they look for a new west-side location, they said. But if they are unable to negotiate the lease, they’ll close at the end of the month.
Poke Mix’s owners — Mike Brotemarkle, John Nguyen and Mike Nguyen — have a second location that opened in August, and it will remain. Crafted at 9730 E 21st St. N. is a coffee shop that also serves build-your-own poke.
“What started out as an experiment 3 years ago, turned into a wildly successful campaign, which led to the east-side creation of Crafted on 21st and Webb,” the post read. “The support that we have received has blown our minds and we can’t thank you enough.”
I’ll keep you updated on what the owners decide about a closing date for Poke Mix.
