Many Wichita Asian restaurants celebrating Lunar New Year with lion dances, lucky money
The Year of the Rat starts on Saturday, when people across the world will be celebrating the Lunar New Year.
In Wichita, the holiday always includes lots of lion and dragon dancing and food specials at local restaurants. Here are some of the places Wichita can celebrate and grab a meal and some entertainment.

Saturday
Malaysia Cafe, 7777 E. 21st St.: This Malaysian restaurant is selling special desserts and goodies for the Lunar New Year, including beehive cookies.
Thao’s Bistro, 1825 S. Broadway: This Vietnamese restaurant is celebrating at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday with a performance by dragon dancers.
Saigon Oriental Restaurant, 1103 N. Broadway: This popular Vietnamese restaurant will celebrate the Year of the Rat at all-day event that will include lion dancers at noon. They’ll also be giving out Li Xi, also known as “lucky money.” They’ll hand out the little red envelopes, each of which will contain a lottery ticket or cash ranging from $1 up to $20.
Kimson Asian Market, 960 E. Pawnee: This market will be celebrating the holiday with a lion dance at noon plus fireworks and lucky money for attendees.
Saigon Bistro, 3123 E. Pawnee: This Vietnamese restaurant will have lion dancers at 12:15 p.m. on Saturday.
Pho Special, 2409 E. Pawnee: Lion dancers will perform at the restaurant at 12:35 p.m. on Saturday
Asian Bistro, 1520 S. Webb: This restaurant will celebrate at 1:15 p.m. on Saturday with lion dances and lucky money.
Thai An Oriental Market, 2425 S. Hillside: Lion dancers will perform at this Asian market at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
Thai Binh Supermarket, 1530 W. 21st St.: Lion dancers will perform at this Asian market at 2 p.m. Saturday.
Mama Nith’s Crawfish, 604 S. Topeka: Lion and dragon dances will begin at 3 p.m. on Saturday at this Viet-Cajun restaurant.
ICTea, 3300 N. Rock Road: Lion dancers will be performing at this tea and boba shop at 5 p.m. on Saturday.
Lemongrass, 300 N. Mead: Lion dancers will perform at this Old Town Square Vietnamese restaurant at 7 p.m. on Saturday.
Headshots Bar & Grill, 2120 N. Woodlawn: This gaming cafe will celebrate Chinese New Year all day Saturday with food, sake and gifts.
Sunday
Oh Yeah China Bistro, 3101 N. Rock Road: Lion Dancers will perform at this Chinese restaurant at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday.
Pho Cuong, 6605 E. 37th St. North: Lion Dancers will perform at this Vietnamese restaurant restaurant at 2 p.m. on Sunday.
Chicken N Pickle, 1240 N. Greenwich : Lion dancers will perform at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday.
Kung Fu Tea, 1625 S. Rock Road: This bubble tea shop will celebrate from 3 to 8:30 p.m. on Sunday and will have a lion dance team in the shop at 3 p.m. They’ll also be offering traditional New Year treats for free.
