Wichita Cajun restaurant that’s been closed for two months reopens with new look, menu
A downtown Wichita Cajun restaurant that’s been closed since the beginning of November has just reopened.
The owners of Mama Nith’s Crawfish, who initially opened the seafood-focused restaurant at 604 S. Topeka in November 2018, said that they decided to close the restaurant temporarily to do a big remodel and to re-imagine the menu. They reopened the doors on Friday in time for dinner, said Nith Huynh, who owns the restaurant with her husband, Darryl.
“We just did a little pause and reboot — kind of break,” she said.
When customers return, they’ll find a new look. The kitchen is bigger and the dining room has a more open feel. There are new colors, new floors and more light in the restaurant.
They also redid the menu, keeping popular items like crawfish pho and etouffee but adding dishes customers had often requested, including fried shrimp, frog legs, chicken po’ boy sandwiches, and red beans and rice.
“We just felt like we needed a change,” Nith Huynh said. “We’ve got quite a lot of competition coming into Wichita, and we thought, ‘Let’s just sit down, take a break and see what else we want to do.”
The restaurant also has new hours: 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays; 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Fridays; 1 to 10 p.m. Saturdays and 1 to 9 p.m. Sundays.
