There’s a new boss in the kitchen at Brandon Steven’s 2-year-old 6S Steakhouse
There’s a new chef in the kitchen at 6S Steakhouse.
This week, the restaurant announced that it had hired Omar Bernal, a native of Fontana, California, who trained at Le Cordon Bleu. Bernal replaces Chef Kayson Chong, another California native, who opened the restaurant with owner Brandon Steven almost two years ago.
Chong said he left the restaurant in mid-November. Bernal arrived just after Thanksgiving.
Bernal most recently managed operations for The Patina Restaurant Group at the Walt Disney Concert Hall and Music Center Opera House. He’s worked in places like San Sebastian, Spain, Los Angeles and Abu Dhabi, according to a release. He’s also worked alongside award-winning chefs like Joachim Splichal, David LeFevre and Martín Berasategui.
Seth Glassman, who is the restaurant’s managing partner, said he once worked with Bernal in Los Angeles and admired his style.
“Aside from being a tremendous culinarian, he has a great disposition and is just a great leader,” he said. “He’s also very charismatic — the type of chef that will also come out and talk to the guest every once in a while.”
Glassman said that Bernal isn’t planning any major changes at the restaurant but will be able to put his own touch on things and will focus on that after the holiday season. In the meantime, he’ll be busy preparing for the big New Year’s Eve party at 6S, which will feature a three-course dinner, music, a photo booth, party favors and a champagne toast at midnight.
