People are assuming that this Wichita cafe has closed, but that’s not what’s happened

People who have passed by Next Level Cafe at 3802 E. Harry might have noticed signs hanging on the building that read “Now Open” and “Thai Cafe” and assumed that the 2-year-old gaming cafe has closed and is being replaced.

But that’s not the case, says Next Level Cafe owner Viet Hoang, though he understands the confusion. Actually, he’s just opened a restaurant within a restaurant.

“The best way I can describe it is that we’re a cafe that’s leveled up,” Hoang said.

Next Level is still operating as it has been since opening in 2017, and it’s still serving the menu of panini sandwiches, soup and coffee that customers have become used to. But late last week, it added a Thai kitchen in the back.

Thai Cafe is now a part of Level Up Cafe but it has its own menu with specialties like Pad Thai, Pad See Ewe, fried rice and curry. You can see the full menu below.

Hoang said that business has been good but that he was ready to expand a bit. He’s a big fan of Thai food, he said, and he recently became friends with someone who used to work in the kitchen for another Thai restaurant in Wichita.

“He showed us his cooking skills, and we were like, ‘That can make us money. At least enough for us to expand a little bit,” he said.

They officially opened Thai Cafe late last week, and although the place is still a gaming cafe, you don’t have to be a gamer to eat there, Hoang said. He has about 40 seats inside, and anyone is welcome.

The kitchen is open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily.

“Anyone can come in here and actually get very good, very quality food,” he said.
