Freddy’s is going mobile with a big new Wichita food truck
Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers is about to go mobile in Wichita.
The Wichita-based chain recently purchased a big new food trailer, and in a few weeks, it will hit the road, dispensing its famous double steakburgers and fries everywhere it goes, said Scott Redler, Freddy’s co-founder.
Redler said that the trailer came from Haysville, and it was just wrapped with the Freddy’s logos on Monday. Anyone driving down Washington between Douglas and Kellogg on Monday afternoon might have seen workers applying the design.
The truck will go to food truck rallies in town but it will also give Freddy’s a way to cater private events or serve at fundraisers.
“If you picture a Friday afternoon and you own a business that has 500 employees and you want to get everyone started off on a great weekend, we can coordinate coming in and doing steakburgers and custard or just custard,” Redler said.
Owners also plan to take the truck now and then to smaller nearby communities that don’t yet have their own Freddy’s.
If it’s being used for catering, Redler said, the trailer will be capable of serving anything on the Freddy’s menu. At rallies, it’ll serve a more limited menu of steakburgers, hot dogs, fries and custard.
There’s one other Freddy’s food truck, and it’s owned by a franchisee in Salina, Redler said. A few other franchisees have smaller Freddy’s food trailers they use.
If the new Wichita trailer is a hit, Redler said, it could serve as a model that franchisees across the nation could copy.
Freddy’s owners have to get a few more permits squared way before the truck hits the streets, but I’ll let you know when it’s ready.
