Wichita barbecue restaurant closes, its contents to be auctioned off next week
If you’re interested in owning any of the contents of a barbecue restaurant, you’ll need to be at the Dickey’s Barbecue Pit east, 2244 N. Greenwich, at 9 a.m. on April 17.
That’s when Bud Palmer Auction will be liquidating the contents of the restaurant, which has closed after two and a half years in business.
Both Wichita Dickey’s restaurants were purchased earlier this year by Tom Schwab. I have not been able to reach him, but a spokeswoman for Dickey’s corporate office in Dallas responded to an inquiry about the auction.
“Dickey’s corporate office is currently working with the franchisee on the future of his store,” said Callie Head, the public relations manager for Dickey’s corporate. “We can provide other updates as they are available.”
The contents of the east Dickey’s were listed for auction once before, but that auction — scheduled for March 13 — was canceled. For about a week late last month, the west-side store was closed as well. At the time, Head said that the stores were “temporarily closed to ensure they were fully prepared to reopen under new ownership.”
At that time, Head also said that the first auction of the east-side store had been arranged by the previous owner.
“Before the transition to a new owner was finalized, the previous owner prematurely contacted an auction company but quickly canceled,” she said at the time. “We look forward to the continued success of the Wichita Dickey’s Barbecue Pit locations.”
The posting for the new auction lists tables, signage, light fixtures, wall decor, coffee machines, cabinets, kitchen equipment, pots and pans — even a walk-in cooler.
Wichita’s first Dickey’s, which opened in October 2014 at 2768 N. Maize Road, is still operating.
We’ll update you if we learn any more about the plans for Wichita’s Dickey’s.
