A Wichita restaurant is giving away free food for a year to 100 customers

He’s calling them “Meddys Ambassadors,” and they’ll serve as both a focus group and (with any luck) as word-of-mouth advertisers.

In return, they’ll get a free meal. Every week. For a year.

Today, Meddys owner Alex Harb is launching a unique new promotion that will award 100 people with a card good for a free meal for themselves and a guest at one of his Wichita restaurants every week for a year. (There’s a $10 per person maximum on the free meals.)

Harb, who has two Meddys in Wichita and will open a third downtown in early December, said all he’s asking in return is that the winners join a Facebook group and offer feedback about what they thought of their meals and experiences throughout the year. If they like what they eat, he reasons, they’ll tell their friends.

As he prepares to expand his restaurant concept outside of Wichita, Harb said, the promotion is a way for him to give back to the city that gave him his restaurant start.

“We are going to start expanding out of town here soon, and I want this to be Wichita brand,” Harb said. “This is something created in Wichita and supported by the community of Wichita.”

Those interested in entering should check the Meddys Facebook page this morning for a post about the contest and follow the directions. (They’ll also need to check in at a local Meddys, though no purchase will be required.)

Harb will announce the first batch of winners on Monday, Oct. 29, then will start a new contest round on Tuesday, Oct. 30. and every Tuesday after that through Dec. 18. He’ll pick 12 winners a week until he reaches 100 people.

You can read all the terms of the contest here.

This year’s group of winners will be able to start using their cards on Dec. 26, and they’ll be good until Christmas Eve 2019. Harb plans to choose another 100 winners next year.

Harb said he was inspired to start the contest after launching a recent “free Meddys for a year” giveaway on his Facebook page and getting an enthusiastic response.

“This is something for our Meddys family,” he said. “It’s to show appreciation for the help and support and everything we got from this community.”

The two existing Wichita Meddys are at 7906 E. Harry and 2300 N. Greenwich. The third is under construction at 120 S. Washington.
