Alert fans of fried fish have noticed that the Long John Silver'sthat has operated at 630 E. 47th St. South for 28 years quietly closed a few weeks ago.

But the space won't be empty for long.

Hog Wild Pit Bar-B-Q, which has operated right next door — at 662 E. 47th St. South — since 2002, is moving 100 feet to the east and taking over the space.

T.D. O'Connell, who owns the Hog Wild chain, said he'd long wanted a free-standing space where he could have a drive-through. He told his landlord, Ed Wong, who owns both buildings, that if he ever closed the Long John Silver's, he was interested in the building.

Wong recently told him they had a deal. He closed the Long John Silver's about three weeks ago, and a hand-written sign posted in the front windows reads: "Closed: Thanks for 28 years. Go Fish. Ed."

O'Connell said it will likely be about at least three months before he's ready to open in the new space. He hopes to make a seamless move next door when the time comes.

A look at 10 of the Wichita restaurants that closed in 2017.
