Another seafood chain is moving into Wichita with shrimp, crab legs and more

Another seafood chain is moving in to Wichita, but this one has a Mexican spin.

The spot in Twin Lakes Shopping Center, 21st and Amidon, that's been vacant since Neighbors Bar & Grill moved out of it in 2015, will soon be home to Las Islas Marias, a Mexican seafood chain.

The restaurant, which has several locations in California, has also had one at 7516 State Avenue in Kansas City, Kansas, for the last four years. The owner of the Kansas City store is expanding into Wichita, confirmed an employee there. She's not sure yet about an opening date because "he's still getting permits," but there's a sign hanging in the window promoting the restaurant's impending arrival.

The menu at the Kansas City restaurant, which is written in Spanish, lists crab legs, shrimp dishes and molcajetes. Photos on the restaurant's Facebook page show a clay molcajetes dish overflowing with crab legs, mussels and shrimp; a giant glass of shrimp cocktail; and several fish dishes.

The new Las Islas is not to be confused with La Isla, the Wichita Mexican seafood restaurant that's been operating at 1935 N. Broadway since April 2015. That restaurant, owned by Jose and Yuliana Gandara, is still open and also briefly had a second restaurant at 784 N. West St., where the new seafood chain King Krabz Seafood opened in February.

I'll let you know when I get more information about the restaurant's opening date.
