Non-cooks rejoice: Wichita restaurants selling Thanksgiving birds, pies, meals to-go

Thanksgiving is perhaps the biggest cooking holiday.

But not everyone has the ability – or desire – to cook the traditional meal.

Not a problem. Wichita restaurants are happy to do it for you, and a long list of them are offering turkeys, hams, pies, sides – even whole meal deals to go.

Here’s a list of some of the restaurants that will make your Thanksgiving for you. Call soon for reservations. Many have deadlines set for the weekend.

Last-minute help

Green Acres is putting pies, casseroles and side dishes in its grab and go area at 10 a.m. on Wednesday after it fills its advance orders. In case your guest list includes people with food sensitivities, it offers gluten-free, vegan and organic options. The store also has fresh turkeys for sale. Both stores will be open until 8 p.m. Wednesday. Green Acres has stores at Bradley Fair, 8141 E. 21st, and on the west side at 10555 W. 21st. For more information call the deli at 316-634-1088.

Turkeys and hams (and a turducken)

B&C Barbecue, 355 N. Washington, 316-263-8815: Selling smoked 12- to 14-pound turkeys for $39.95 and hams that vary in price and weight. Pick up by 3 p.m. Nov. 22. Call for reservations.

Bella Vita Bistro, 120 N. West St., 316-941-4500: Selling 10 pound turduckens (boneless turkey breast, Maple leaf duck breast and game hen stuffed with sage sausage and cornbread stuffing) for $43.95. Pickup anytime on Wednesday.

Delano BBQ Co., 710 W. Douglas, 316-260-4950: Selling 13-pound smoked turkeys for $39.95, and 7-9 pound pit hams for $42.95, and 8- to 10- pound spiral hams for $49.95. Deadline for ordering is Nov. 18. Pick up by 2:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Gone Wild BBQ, 128 S. Seneca, 316-393-9580: This catering company serving 10- to 20-pound turkeys either smoked ($35-$70) or deep-fried ($55-$90) or hickory-glazed, bone-in, spiral-cut for $60for a half or $95 for a whole. Order deadline is Sunday; pickup or delivery available on Wednesday.

Hog Wild Pit Bar-B-Q, 233 S. West St., 316-945-9550; 1200 S. Rock Road, 316-618-7227; 662 E. 47th St. South, 316-522-7636; 3550 N. Woodlawn, 316-684-1945; 8821 W. 21st St., 316-721-7775: Selling 10- to 12-pound turkeys for $35 or 4-5-pound smoked hams for $30. Pickup is available until 8 p.m. on Wednesday. Call for reservations.

Pig-In, Pig-Out, 1003 E. 13th St., 316-263-7474: Selling 13-15-pound smoked turkeys for $39.99 or two for $75.99 and whole unsliced hams for $8.99 a pound that are approximately 4-6 pounds. Pickup until Tuesday and Wednesday.

Taste of Times Square, 402 N Market, 316-201-6600: Selling 16-pound roasted ($40) or smoked ($45) turkeys. Full meals available for $10-$12 a person. Reservations due by Monday. Pickup by 3 p.m. Wednesday.

Two Brothers BBQ: The local restaurant chain will sell 12- to 14-pound smoked turkeys for $39.99 and half hams for $59.99. Pickup is available until 9 p.m. on Wednesday, and reheating instructions will be included. Make reservations by Monday by calling one of these five stores: 3134 E. Douglas, 316-978-9990; 300 S. Greenwich, 316-683-1330; 8406 W. Central, 316-729-7755; and 1701 W. Central in El Dorado, 316-452-5522.

Whole Foods, 1423 N. Webb Road, 316-630-8484: The grocery store allows customers to order turkeys, hams and full Thanksgiving meals online and pick them up in the store. Cooked turkeys range from $39 to $89 and available for Thanksgiving day pickup until 2. Fully-cooked spiral-sliced hams are $3.99 a pound to $5.99 a pound. When Pigs Fly, 7011 W. Central, 316-295-2150: Selling 12- to 14-pound smoked turkeys for $37.99 and 8- to 10-pound spiral-cut hams for $42.99. Pick up between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. Wednesday. Order by Saturday.

Full-meal options

Dillons: Local Dillons stores will sell full meals that serve six to eight people and range in price from $49.99 to $99.99. They’ll come with reheating instructions. For a list of meals available, visit https://www.dillons.com. Call your neighborhood Dillons for details.

Eberly Farms, 13111 W. 21st St. N., 316-722-3580: The farm serves spiral cut, hickory smoked glazed hams or smoked turkeys served with mashed potatoes, gravy, dressing, green beans and dinner rolls for $13.95 a person, 25 meal minimum per order. Pickup is available until noon on Wednesday. Make reservations by Saturday.

Garden of Eatin’, 612 E. Douglas, 316-768-4299: Serving turkeys ready to bake, mashed potatoes and gravy, stuffing, green bean casserole, cranberry chutney and whipped sweet potatoes with brown sugar and maple candied pecans. Meal for four is $129. Meals for eight are $169. Vegan meals are also available. Reservations due by Tuesday. Pickup between noon and 3 p.m. Wednesday.

Gone Wild BBQ, 128 S. Seneca, 316-393-9580: Serving traditional dinners with turkey, dressing, gravy, mashed potatoes, dinner rolls and pie for $10 each. Minimum of six people. Order by Sunday, pickup or delivery on Wednesday.

Olive Tree Catering, 2949 N. Rock Road, 316-681-1100: Latour is selling a dinner package that will feed up to 22 and includes a 20- to 24-pound roasted turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, stuffing, green beans and rolls for $220. A smaller package serves up to 16 and has a 12- to 14-pound turkey and costs $175. Pickup by 7 p.m. Wednesday

Stroud’s, 3661 N. Hillside, 316-838-2454: The restaurant will serve turkey or ham dinners with sides for $23.99 a person, $13.99 for ages 10 and under. Includes roasted turkey or smoked ham entree with sides. Pick up on Thanksgiving Day.

The Kitchen, 725 E. Douglas, 316-928-2899: They’re not serving turkeys, but The Kitchen is offering a long list of sides-to-go, including loaded mashed potatoes, cornbread and brioche stuffing, mac and cheese, green bean casserole and more. Each item serves 8-12. Place orders by Friday.

Two Brothers BBQ: Selling full dinners for 10 to 15 that cost $109.99 with a smoked turkey or $129.99 with a spiral ham. A super holiday feast that feeds 16-24 and features two smoked turkeys is $199.99 or $234.99 for two smoked hams. Make reservations by Monday by calling one of these five stores: 3134 E. Whole Foods, 1423 N. Webb Road, 316-630-8484: The upscale grocery store is offering full Thanksgiving meals that can be ordered online. There are several options, ranging from $39.99 for a vegan holiday dinner for two to a $249 roasted organic turkey dinner for 12. Orders must be placed by Monday. Pickups can be scheduled from now to Thanksgiving Day. Find the online order form at www.wholefoodsmarket.com.

And a few places for pies

Several restaurants also are baking up pies-to-go for the holidays. You can call your favorite pie baker for details, but here are a few.

Doo-Dah Diner, 206 E. Kellogg, 316-265-7011: This popular restaurant is serving pumpkin, apple or pecan pies for $29.03 each or bread pudding for $36.99. They’re also selling their famous monkey bread. Orders must be placed by Sunday and picked up on Wednesday between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. Order online at www.doodahdiner.com.

The Kitchen, 725 E. Douglas, 316-928-2899: This restaurant is serving pumpkin pies and Southern pecan pies for $18, pecan and dark chocolate pies for $20, a caramel apple cakes for $55. Order deadline is Friday.

Milkfloat, 535 W. Douglas, 316-558-8440: This dessert restaurant is offering fresh-from-scratch pies and other desserts for the holidays. Pie choices include apple, cherry, blueberry, pecan, pumpkin and more, and they range from $20 to $25. Gluten-free options also are available. Order by 5 p.m. Monday at www.milkfloat.com/ or in the store.

Tanya’s Soup Kitchen, 1725 E. Douglas, 316-267-7687: Chef Kelly Rae Leffel is making pumpkin pecan, French silk and pumpkin pies to go plus cheesecakes. Pies are $25 and cheesecake is $45. Order by Monday.

The Butterball Turkey Talk Line launched in 1981 to help home cooks make turkeys for Thanksgiving. The hotline has helped 50 million people so far. Supervisor Marjorie Klindera shared what it's like to work on the hotline.
